SATURDAY NOVEMBER 7TH THROUGH SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21ST The Orchard Public Library will be holding its annual Used Book Sale from Saturday, November 7th to Saturday, November 21st during regular library hours. Those hours are: Monday, Thursday, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Prices are extremely reasonable-- 25 cents for paperbacks and 50 cents for hardcovers. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6TH Stadium Sports will close at 4 PM today. The West Holt Booster Club is sponsoring A Fan Bus to the game in Pierce on Friday, November 6th. The cost is $10.00 per person, contact Sandra Schrunk at 340-3854 or after 4 p.m. call Nancy Weber at 340-5403. The bus will leave West Holt at 4 p.m. on Friday. Come out and support the Huskies and leave the driving to us! Register for Tilden Basketball League by November 6th. The Annual Cub and Boyscout popcorn sales fundraiser began October 15th. Please help support your local Pack/Troop 245. If you are not contacted by a scout then please call Jennifer Klabenes at 340-4150. The sales end on November 12th. This year's West Holt Public School Veteran's Day Program will again feature a slideshow presentation of past and present military personnel. They are looking for additional photos to add to the presentation. They will reschedule at a time when the flu virus is not such a high risk for residents. Mailers will be sent out once the new date has been set. There will be a Matching Funds Benefit by the Modern Woodsman of America for Cameron Shaw at the Atkinson Presbyterian Church in Atkinson on Saturday November 7th. There will be soups, salads, and bars with serving from 5 to 8 p.m. or until the food is gone. There will also be a Silent Auction and Food Sale. The Niobrara Presbyterian Church will be having its Fall Supper Saturday November 7th at the church in Niobrara. They will be serving turkey and all the trimmings from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Call 402-857-3457 for more information. "A Recipe for Fun" is the theme for the WFLA Fall Tea on Saturday November 7th at the Lynch Community Hall at 2 p.m. Please bring a favorite cookbook and/or a recipe to share. The Good Samaritan Society-Atkinson is hosting an Open-House on Saturday November 7th from 2 to 4 p.m. to celebrate and dedicate its newly remodeled kitchen, dining room, and chapel. Come and join in the afternoon's activities. There will be an open house for the 80th birthday of Lois Skala at the Faith Wesleyan Church Ministry Hall in Atkinson on Saturday November 7th. The open house will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and the hall is located 3/4 mile north of Hwys 11 & 20 Junction. No gifts please, your presence is gift enough. The Atkinson Senior Center will have tables available for vendors for November 7th in Atkinson. November 7th kicks off the Atkinson Public Library’s 7th Annual Holiday Silent Auction! If you’re creative, please share your talents, or purchase an item and donate it to the auction. Let your imagination be your guide. Stop by and bid on a wide variety of holiday decorations, gift baskets, etc. – winning bids will be announced December 8, 2009! SUNDAY NOVEMBER 8TH The St. Patrick's Sunday Night Bible Timeline Study is cancelled for this Sunday Noevember 8th. Creighton Ministerial Association is looking for people who enjoy Christian music to sing and play specials at a Gospel Sing Benefit in Creighton, Sunday November 8th. Music will start at 3 p.m. with cookies and beverages served at 5 p.m. The Gospel Sing will be at Faith Hope and Love Fellowship at 504 Oak St. in Creighton. This event is open to the public. Proceeds of the freewill offering will be used for the Creighton Ministerial fund. On Sunday, November 8th, the youth of Bloomfield Boy Scout Troop 149, the FFA, and FCCLA will be hosting the Annual Santa's Market. Vendors of homemade crafts, and commercial products will be on hand to sell their items for your early Christmas shopping. This will take place at the Bloomfield High School Auditorium at 311 E. Benton in Bloomfield. The Boy Scout Troop 149 will have homemade soup and sandwiches, homemade bars, pop, and coffee. Free admission, lots of door prizes, and fun for all. The St. Anthony's Hospital Foundation 2009 Benefit Dinner Theatre will be held Sunday November 8th at 6 p.m. at the O'Neill Public High School Auditorium. The theme for this year's event is "Way Out West" Your purchase of a $30 dinner ticket covers a delicious catered meal and delightful entertainment provided by the talented Johansen Sisters. Ticket sales are underway and may be purchased from any St. Anthony's Foundation Board Member, or by calling Deb Frederick at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital at 336-5131. MONDAY NOVEMBER 9TH The O'Neill Booster meeting has been moved from its regularly scheduled first Monday of the month due to sports conflicts. The November meeting will be held on Monday November 9th instead of November 2nd. It will start at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall at the high school. All booster members and interested public are invited to attend. TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10TH Riverview Livestock 4-H Club and Our Savior's Youth Group will be conducting their annual Food Drive Scavenger Hunt in Spencer on Tuesday, November 0th after school. Food and Cash donations will be collected for the Boyd County Food Pantry. WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 11TH The Avera O'Neill Family Medicine Clinic in Page will be closed Wednesday November 11th. A Veteran's Day Program will be held at the Lynch School Gym on Wednesday, November 11th at 10 a.m. The program speaker will be Sharon Lang, State President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW. The Farley-Tushla Post No. 86, The American Legion Auxiliary and SAL Squadron No. 86 invite you to Veteran's Day in Atkinson on Wednesday November 11th. There will be food, cards, and games and the Legion Hall and the Community Center. Lunch starts serving at 11a.m. and runs until 1:30 p.m. and dinner will start at 4:30 p.m. and go until 8 p.m. Card playing starts at 11 a.m. and continues throughout the afternoon and evening. Games will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday November 11th there will be a Veterans Turkey Lunch with Trimmings with serving starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Orchard Evengelical Free Church in honor of our veterans. There will be a free will offering. The Neligh United Methodist Church Annual Soup dinner and supper Wednesday November 11th from 11a.m. to 1p.m. and from 5 to 7p.m. Adults $5.00 and children 12 and under $2.50. It will be held at the Neligh American Legion Club and will include and bake sale silent auction and more. Honor our Veterans and enjoy a Delicious Veterans' Day Supper from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, November 11th at the Eagles Aerie, 321 Douglas Street, O'Neill. They're serving up De-elicisous Mountain Oysters starting at 5:30 Saturday, November 14th, at the Naper VFW Hall! It's well worth the drive! The Lynch Senior Class is holding a soup supper on Saturday November 14th and will be serving from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lynch Community Hall. They will be serving Chili and Chicken Noodle, with crackers, dinner rolls, relish, beverages and desserts. Prices are $4.50 for adults and $3 for grades K-6. Bring your family to Orchard on the evening of Saturday November 14th for a spaghetti supper and bake sale. Featured will be the renowned red or white sauces of Pablo's Spaghetti made by Paul and Marilynn Golter. Serving will begin at 5:00 PM and ends at 7:00 PM at the Methodist Church. While there, stock up on all kinds of goodies at the bake sale. All proceeds will go toward improvements and repairs to the Orchard Swimming Pool. MONDAY NOVEMBER 16TH Rock County High School will be having their Fall Festival Concert on Monday November 16th at 7:30 p.m. at the Rock County High School Gym. Everyone is invited to attend. TUESDAY NOVEMBER 17TH Living Through Grief Support meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. starting November 17th and running through December 8th. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 18TH On Friday November 18th from 2 to 4 p.m. the Highland House Assisted Living in Spencer will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary. Please join them for cake and ice cream and a chance to win some door prizes. November Alzheimer's Support Group will be held on Thursday November 19th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neill Library. We will be recognizing November as National Alzheimer's Awareness Month by having a special showing of the Memory Loss Tapes. The Memory Loss tapes were produced by HBO and shown on PBS. Refreshments will be served. The Atkinson Public Library presents D.R. Haskin, Thursday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Haskin is the author of The Hills of Mars, a popular book that tells a true story about the settlement of northeast Nebraska in the 1870’s. It follows Samuel Haskin from Wisconsin to the Verdigris River Valley in the northeast part of Nebraska and documents his struggles to develop a town named “Mars” on the banks of the Verdigris. D.R. Haskin is the great, great grandson of Samuel Haskin and lives on the land that Samuel homesteaded in 1873. He will talk about his book and the research involved in gathering the information. Haskin will also have books available and will sign copies of this book. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21ST There will be a 3 on 3 youth basketball league for boys in grades 3-6 this fall in O'Neill. This will start on Saturday November 21st with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the O'Neill Elementary Gym. The other dates are Saturdays December 5th, 12th, and 19th. Forms have been sent home at both O'Neill Public and St. Mary's and additional forms can be picked up at the O'Neill High School office. SATURDAY DECEMBER 5TH The Annual Naper Craft Fair will be held on Saturday December 5th at the Naper Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded hourly and lunch is available.
